The premise of a start-up is to venture into something that is unsafe, risky and more difficult than usual. From a young age, women are culturally groomed to believe that the kind of behaviour, work, or endeavours that fit these descriptions are bad for them. Many times, women are not allowed to aspire ‘too high.’ As a result, they tend to participate in the least risky ventures.
Like any other graduate, inner peace is mostly achieved when you land your dream job. Joining Impact Africa Network fulfilled this desire for me.
The induction process alone sent me a signal, “You should definitely up your game to work for this organization girl!”
The calibre of the program run by IAN is unmatched. The environment has shifted my mindset from living in a fear-based society towards being anti-fragile as I keep up with the infinite game of life.
As an individual, you are expected to show up with results. I have learned to speak up, express my opinions, and most importantly be self-disciplined.
With a one of a kind and supportive CEO, Mark Karake, motivation is peak. It’s often said, “ An organization with a good employer-employee relationship is bound to prosper”. One of his favorite phrases is, "Guys, momentum! Momentum!" and that always keeps me in check.
Working as a Product Development Fellow with an amazing team of developers has been an amazing experience. I am exposed to equality in opportunities, projects, idea sharing and a conducive work environment.
Collaboration flows naturally across departments. We are a support system for one another. In just a short span of time, I am already referring to myself as a tech-entrepreneur; because I’m confident in the phases of research, marketing, design, entrepreneurship, and skill-development that IAN is putting me through.
This platform right here; the Innovation Fellowship Program, is what every aspiring female developer out there needs; a change in the career space, a place to belong and make impact.
